Redwood City Downtown Grand Opening

Devil's Canyon poured the Silcon Blonde and our Amber Ale yesterday at “Redwood City: Our Town - Downtown”
The event offered great activities, music and entertainment, food, beverages, and a wonderful time for the entire family from noon until 7 pm. Theatre Way and parts of Broadway were pedestrian-only, making this a family-friendly. Redwood City Mayor Barbara Pierce spoke at 11 am on the steps of the Old Courthouse/San Mateo County History Museum for the opening ceremony. Four stages of live musical entertainment throughout Downtown kept Redwood City rocking all day, along with street performers, free tango lessons, a street jam, and blues at the Little Fox! Local restaurants, wineries and microbreweries offered their delicious fare to taste and enjoy.
There were classic car and carriage displays, horse-drawn carriage rides, face painting, pumpkin walk, arts and crafts like stained glass, ship making, and more! Historical reenactments, walking tours of the Fox Theatre and other historical buildings, discounted entry to the San Mateo County History Museum, stagecoach display…the list goes on and on.
Much of the event took place on Broadway and on the beautiful new section of Middlefield Road , which has been nicknamed " Theatre Way " from Veterans Blvd. to Main Street . Theatre Way is a great place to eat, drink, stroll, or meet up with friends, and features attractive granite paving with special details to bring out a European feel. Theatre Way now houses one of the world ' s best-designed movie theater complexes – the Century Downtown 20 - with a soaring 40-foot lobby ceiling, 20 screens, and 4,200 seats. At street-level, 85,000 square feet of retail shops and restaurants are creating a lively and active downtown life.
Downtown Redwood City is truly the heart of the community. It is the center of dining, shopping, government, and business for the entire city, and is destined to be the entertainment hub of the San Francisco Peninsula . We were glad we could join the community for “ Redwood City : Our Town – Downtown” and celebrate a renewed pride in Redwood City .
