May 06 Beer Friday Update

There are two items to note in regard to the upcoming Beer Friday on May 26th.

First, the Bands have been verified and oh, are you going to like the line up.

Secondly, there is going to be a price change for the beer - but, in the words of the immortal Douglas Adams "Don't Panic"

Here are the details:

Let's start with the bands. First up our good friend Melissa Rapp :

Combining the soul of Fiona Apple with the roots vibe of Ben Harper, Melissa Rapp brings clear vocals to her warm, magical sound.Born and raised in Honolulu, Melissa’s music in part reflects her childhood–one of hiking to waterfalls, swimming in the warm ocean at night, and sleeping under the stars. Soothing melodies and lush tropical imagery are woven into her soulful songs. But don’t be surprised to hear her depart from her lullabies to belt out an edgy rock track. With her passion for music encompassing everything from blues to bluegrass, reggae to rap, Melissa works to blend the unique sweetness of each genre into her songwriting. With her full band behind her, she puts on a high-energy show, showcasing originals from her upcoming album as well as from her 2003 debut.

In 2005, Melissa performed at South-By-Southwest as a GoGirls showcase artist and played the main stage at San Francisco’s Union Street Festival. Grizzly Radio featured Melissa daily on their morning program during the 2005 High Sierra Music Festival, and played "Nothing, Nothing," from her upcoming album. After a Southern California tour, Melissa performed a 10-day residency at the Solano County Fair in July, opening for bands such as ALO, Chuck Prophet, London Street, and Tea Leaf Green. She also started filming her second music video, shot on location in Lake Tahoe and San Francisco.

This fall, Melissa was chosen as a finalist out of 700 entries for the Acoustic Live talent series and industry showcase in Los Angeles. She also toured throughout the Northwest, Southwest, and California.

Melissa is currently in the studio working with producer/bassist Jon Evans (Tori Amos, Paula Cole) to finish tracking her second album, due in 2006. Featured musicians include keyboardist Julie Wolf (Ani DiFranco, Dar Williams) and drummer Allison Miller (Natalie Merchant).

And headlining? None other than the Bay Area's own MumbleFinger !

Mumblefinger was raised in Northern California but spent time in many different parts of the country, absorbing the different styles of music he came into contact with and writing songs wherever he went. In the ‘90s he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of original material and proceeded to build a large and loyal following. His songs are uniquely identifiable and with his strong guitar hooks, gritty vocals and the bold imagery of his lyrics he stands out as a truly original artist.

While playing steadily throughout the Bay Area in the late ‘90s, Mumblefinger released two CDs on his own, “Southern fried n’ greasy” and “Nasty Bits of Funk.” Songs from both albums have been showcased on the nationally syndicated “House of Blues Radio Hour”. “John Lee Funk,” was written as a tribute to the great John Lee Hooker. After hearing the song written in his honor, John Lee Hooker personally requested that Mumblefinger open for him at some of his Bay Area shows. He also played regularly at John Lee’s San Francisco nightclub, “The Boom Boom Room ”.

What a great mix! Be prepared for some fantastic music!

But what about that price increase thing? It's been a long time since we have had to raise the prices on our beers and we were hesitant to do so. For the past few years we have charged $2.00 for a 12oz beer. Sadly, those days are over. The new price schedule? Ready for it? As of this Beer Friday, beers will cost $3.00 for a 16oz glass.

Did you catch the math on that one?

$2.00 for 12oz  <– Old
$3.00 for 16oz  <– New

For the mathematicians out there this translates to a $0.02 increase per ounce, or put another way - a grand total of a whopping extra $0.32 cents per beer you drink.

It's our hope that this will cut down the waiting in line a little bit since you're getting more per trip to the bar.

So see -  it's not all that bad!
