    When Are You Open?

Devil's Canyon is not open to the public except for the last Friday of every month. The last Friday of the month is Beer Friday where we open our doors - free admission, $4 Beer tastings and some of the Bay Area's best live music.

If you check out the Calendar you may also find us out and about in town, attending various events. Stop by one of them, say hi, and have a brew!

While the majority of our beer goes out to restaurants and bars, we do sell Kegs, Corny Kegs and Growlers of our beer to the general public. If you call ahead, we will set up a time to have your beer ready for you.

When Can I Come To The Brewery To Taste Your Beers?

If you are a restaurant or bar manager we'd be glad to arrange for one of our salespersons to come to your location at a time that's convenient to you to do a tasting, please contact us to set up a time.

If you are an individual we invite you to come to Beer Friday on the last Friday of every month to taste all of our beers and have a great time while you're at it. Otherwise, we are a production brewery and not a brewpub, so we don't have bar staff available to do tastings. During the rest of the month please visit one of our many tap locations and support a local business!

If you would like to buy a keg for a party or your kegerator and need help deciding what to buy, please call us in advance and we will happily assist you.

What Is The Best Way To Order Beer For My Upcoming Party?

Call us and put in your order as soon as possible (“day of” orders are near impossible to fill). Let us know what size you need (13.2 gallon, 5 gallon, Growler or Party Ball), and if you will need a jockey box (a portable draft system complete with CO2) or a hand pump.

There is a link to the current price list on the top of this page in the main menu. Let us know when you would like to pick up your order, so we can coordinate our operations here at the brewery. (We are not open to the public).

Enjoy your beer. Return our equipment within 3 days. Cheers.

Beer Friday is indeed "Kid-Friendly." Please keep in mind that we are a working brewery and there is a lot of equipment around that little ones can into trouble with if not properly supervised. It can also be pretty crowded depending on the month / band / weather.

How Much Beer Do You Make?

    Are Your Beers Pasteurized? Filtered?

Pasteurisation is an optional stage of the beer process in which the beer is slowly heated and cooled to kill off any existing bacteria in order to maintain longer shelf life. This is generally a stage not included in higher end beers, but is quite common in mass-produced beers such as American-Style lite beers, and other mass-produced lagers. It is less common in ales as pasteurization can change the many flavours. (Wikipedia)

We don't pasteurize our beers. However: In the brewing process the wort (pre-beer goop) is heated to 160 degrees for the mash-in (adding grains) and then up to 220 degrees when we add hops. When the brewing process is finished and we are transferring the wort to a fermenting tank, a heat exchanger cools the now 180 degree wort to 70 degrees so we can add yeast.

We do filter our beers after fermentation. Depending on the style we will use a different combination of varying micron filters on a home-built filtration rig. If you are around on Beer Friday we'd be glad to show you the system.

Why, Why, Why Retire the Hefeweizen?

The entire question was: "Without looking too hard, I can't seem to find an answer to this question:

Why why why retire the Hefeweizen? I must say I've travelled far and wide and can honestly say that Devil's Canyon Hefeweizen was the absolute best this side of Germany (and I'd even put it up in the top 3 I've ever had)."

Our Answer: Consistency. Yes, we loved the Hefeweizen too and thought it would be a permanent addition to line-up but we had a challenge controlling the consistency. We were using live yeast strains and try as we may we kept getting variations on the final product.

Being a small brewery as we are, we pride ourselves in our ability to stay consistent from batch to batch. We don’t have a multi-million dollar automated computer system and we don’t chemically treat our products.

So we talked about it and we decided that we needed to retire the Hefeweizen (after winning a Bronze Medal) so that we could focus on providing the top notch beers our customers expect.

But hey – you never know . . .maybe one Beer Friday .. .
