Devil’s Canyon Brewery “Cheers! for Charity” Program

Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Cheers for CharityWe have always had amazing support from our community and have always tried to give back as much as we could to local schools, charities and noble causes.

We open our doors once a month to the public so we can meet our fans, hear their ideas, blush from their praise and ponder their criticisms. As the brewery continues to grow so does the number of fans that show up for Beer Friday.  It can get crowded, what to do?

After much head scratching, night sweating and spreadsheet manipulating the only solution we could come up with that was viable was to raise our prices at Beer Friday. But it’s not about the money – it’s about crowd control. So how do we message that? How do we maintain our hometown philosophy but still present our fans with a great family and friends night out without looking greedy or aloof?

Well . . . You up the Karma ante. So we introduced a new program: Cheers! for Charity.

Since the April 2011 Beer Friday, $1.00 from each pint sold at the brewery started going to a (preferably local) charitable organization or non-profit group of our choosing.

This month’s donations will be going to
Create-A-Smile: Virgen Family Fire Fund
(Sponsored by Redwood City Firefighter's Association)

Description: Description: Description: Create a SmileCreate-A-Smile: Mission
Create-A-Smile is a foundation that gives back to the community, specifically to people who are victims of tragedy, violence, and misfortune and have little to no income. We particularly target helping children.

Create-A-Smile: Who We Serve
Today Create-A-Smile continues their mission of giving to the local community in which they serve and other communities in need.

About the Virgen Family Fire Fund

In the early morning hours of April 1, a tragic fire tore through a home in Pacifica. The unsuspecting family was caught off guard by the blaze that left two people fatally injured and several others hospitalized.

The event literally hits home for local firefighter Abel Virgen, because the victims of this blaze are his own family members. The house belonged to the family and sadly, Abel’s grandfather along with his 12 year old cousin, died in the fire. The 10 remaining family members have been displaced from their home indefinitely.

The survivors of this horrific event are now in need of staple items such as food, clothing and shelter. Redwood City Firefighters’ Create-a-Smile Foundation, a local non-profit, has established an account with the San Mateo Credit Union dedicated to helping the family with these items. (Full Story)
