Friday Info!
Devil's Canyon Brewery is a brewery
and is generally not open to the public. We sell our beer to bars and
restaurants up and down the peninsula. Here's the current list of locations.
If someone forwarded you this email, please check out the website and join the mailing
list.
On the last
Friday of the month we open our doors to the public at 6pm (Beer Club
Members: 5:30pm) and have 2 or 3 live bands. There is no cover charge. Your
first drink of the night is $8.00. You get to keep the Devil's Canyon pint
glass and bring it back to future events (Reduce, Reuse!). After that, drinks
are only $4.00. Food, Wine, Root Beer and Water is also available.
We are family
friendly but the brewery is not “kid-proof” so keep an eye on the little ones!
We can’t be held responsible if they get all Augustus Gloop’d Willy Wonka
style.
If you or
an acquaintance own a bar, restaurant
or somewhere that local award-winning beer and root beer isn’t being served –
talk to us! We’d love to do a tasting and see what styles fit best at your
location.
If you are
a local business that
may be able to use our beers and root beers in your recipes – we are very
interested in that as well. Ask us about our partnership program.
Our Website
It’s VERY
interactive. Take a look around. There is a calendar of events, a calendar of locations
running specials on our products, photos from events, tap locations and more: www.DevilsCanyon.com
Happy Hour Specials
Did you know that we have a
calendar listing off all the Devil’s Canyon Specific Happy Hour Specials?
Take a look
at http://www.devilscanyonbrewery.com/calendar/
for one near you!
If you have a
favorite watering hole that pours Devil’s Canyon and they don’t have a Devil’s
Canyon beer special ask them about it and then let us know!
We’ll try to
get one rolling for ya!
Kicking Off The 2nd
Harvest Food Drive and Raffle
The 2nd Harvest
Holiday Food & Fund Drive is in full swing and we need your help. In these
tough economic times they are seeing an unprecedented number people seeking
food assistance, some for the very first time. Now more than ever their
services are needed to ensure that those being negatively affected by the
economic downturn and high food prices have access to the healthy food they
need to feed themselves and their families. 96¢ of every $1 donated is used to feed hungry people in
our community.
Devil’s Canyon Brewery is proud to be a 2nd Harvest supporter. We
have a donation bin located at the brewery and during the upcoming Beer Fridays
we will be raffling off a Christmas tree as well as a highly coveted ½
Gallon Refillable Growlers of our beer (or root beer!)
How can you get in on the raffle? Simply bring at
least 5 canned food items or donate $10 in cash, get a raffle ticket from Dan,
and squeal “Me, Me, Me, Me, Me” like a little girl as we hold the drawing. Must
be present to win!
Second Harvest Food
Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties has been providing services to the
community for 35 years. They are the single largest nonprofit provider of food
to low-income households in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties and are the
seventh largest food bank in the country. They provide food to an average of
176,000 individuals each month. Of those they serve, 67% are families with
children and 12% are senior citizens.
Everyone
on staff at Devil’s Canyon thanks you for your continued support of local
businesses and your local brewery.
This
holiday season let’s reach out even further and support those families in our
local community that need a helping hand.
Thank
You.
Devil’s Canyon Logo
Spotted in Webcomic Strip
Crittertopia is an online webcomic by Greg Cooper
that gets posted every Wednesday.
Greg and his fiancé have been known to hang out at brewery events every now and then and are a really neat couple.
We were alerted to a familiar logo in Greg’s latest comic strip . . .
Thanks for the homage – we are still trying to decipher the hidden message and metaphoric reference.
Devil’s Canyon Fans – do us a favor and visit Crittertopia, leave a thank you, “fan” it on facebook, etc.
Who knows – your antics at our events may be immortalized in a future strip.
Devil’s Canyon Group
on Facebook
We will be shutting
down the Devils Canyon "Group" on facebook and moving over to the
Devil's Canyon "Page" - I know, confused the hell out of me too.
Simply
Click Here and select "Join", or "Become A
Fan"
or whatever the correct clickable thing is.
There are 440+ plus people on the old "Group" but only 250+ have
moved to the new "Page" - hence the reminder.
UPDATE: We have also added a “Become a Friend” window on the brewery’s homepage.
Friday October 20th
Brewer’s Burp – Was Fun!
This is
only going out to the Mailer Subscribers and Twitter Subscribers. The Uber Fans. The Deadicated Ones.
Beer Friday gets crowded. It’s a lot
of fun, but a lot of people know about it.
Do you know
what’s less predictable? Burps.
Never know when
one’s gonna come up - Kinda’ like our new Brewer’s Burp Parties.
Ya just never
know when we are going to twitter “BURP 03July, 6pm” or “BURP – Bring Your
Pool!” or something like that. However, you now know that it means we will be
open, informal and you better be ready for the unexpected even though,
technically, that is impossible – like giving 110%. But you get the idea. Watch
for BURP announcements.

Tap
Tail Vinyl Stickers Now Available
Well this is exciting – several nights
spent at Tech Shop using
sophisticated computer stuff and a vinyl cutting machine has produced the first
ever available Devil’s Canyon bumper sticker-like tap tail laminate!
We
have had people ask us repeatedly about getting bumper stickers from the
brewery but we have never been able to figure out the best phrase or design to
put on one.
“Drink
Local Beer” or “Support Your Local Brewery” sounds great in a staff meeting.
It’s a different ball of wax when you get stopped for accidentally rolling a
stop-sign on a Saturday night.
The
answer came to use as we poured a nice frosty draught Root-Beer (now
available in refillable ½ gallon Growlers.)
The Tap Handle!
We
have a limited supply of sizes from 1” to 12” but we will be making more
so if you don’t get one this Beer Friday you can grab one anytime you stop by
to refill a growler or say hello.
Send photos of your Tap Tail to TapTail@DevilsCanyon.com - and here are the Tap Tail Directions (PDF) for your early perusal.
Brew On Premise – Our Gear, Your Beer
What if you could
make your own beer on a professional brewing system, under the guidance of
award-winning brewers? You could tweak that special homebrew recipe, have a
company team-building event, or just meet up with your mates.
Devil’s
Canyon Brewery is the only location in the San Francisco Bay Area that still
have a Brew On Premise program!
During
the approx. 5 hour process under the guidance of an award-winning brewer, you
will make enough beer for a 13.2 gallon keg or about 5 cases of 22oz bottled beers.
Make
it an event with friends and you can mix and match cases of your different
brews.
This
is a perfect activity for a unique twist on any type of event you might host.
BOPs
are extremely sought after and they fill up almost as soon as we announce them.
·
Your
best bet is to ensure you are on our Twitter feed. That is the first
place we will post a notification.
·
Secondly,
check the website and the brewery
calendar.
·
Lastly,
simply ask the BOP Coordinator when
the next one is!
If you
have a special need to use our brewing system we do occasionally run batches
for special group events. Please contact us with the
details of you idea!
Full Boar Scotch Ale
– Hopscotch Cheddar Cheese
In case you don’t
know . . .
Hopscotch
is a gold medal winning cheddar cheese from Fiscalini, soaked in Devil’s Canyon
Brewing Company’s award winning Full Boar Scotch Ale!
Immediately
after the cheddar has been milled, the milled curds are soaked in the Scotch
Ale for two hours. Then, the cheese is placed in molds and pressed for 18
hours. After pressing, the 40 pound blocks are weighed, vacuum sealed and boxed
for aging. The appearance is pleasing as the white cheddar is highlighted by
the dark beer surrounding each of the pressed curds. At 4 to 5 months the flavor
of the cheddar and the ale engage in a unique tasting experience, and becomes
more intense with further aging.
A great
cheese alone, it is also wonderful melted on pizza, burgers, quesadillas, mac ‘n
cheese, etc. We also recommend pairing Hopscotch Cheddar with Devil’s Canyon’s
Full Boar Scotch Ale, or any of their award winning beers.
Available
online from http://www.GreateerCheese.com/
, it has
come to our attention that Bianchini’s Market - good old fashioned service in the
heart of San Carlos - now has it as well!

Don’t Fear The Porta-Potty
“Clean” is
the word. We’ve all been to the county fair and had the county fair outhouse
experience. Enough Said.
Our state-of-the-art Porta-Potty
is serviced 2 hours before Beer Friday.
During Beer
Friday the indoor bathrooms can get messy pretty quickly and we try to stay on
top of them as much as possible. Strangely enough, the Porta-John outside seems
to fair much better.
So don’t be
afraid of the big blue box.

American Beer – Quick Back Story:
In the
1800’s, the United States had over 1,500 breweries. When the 21st amendment was
ratified, only half of the facilities had survived prohibition. Even worse, due
to consolidation, by 1978 the number dropped to 42. Imagine, only 42 breweries
country-wide. Little diversity, few options, fizzy, yellow, watered-down
pilsners reigned supreme.
Thankfully,
people just like you have begun to rediscover real craft beer. Neighborhood
pubs and restaurants like this one are carrying more selections from their
neighborhood breweries. Local economies are being directly benefited, local
jobs are being created, and thanks to the growing appreciation for locally
brewed beers. . .
Today
there are over 1,400 breweries operating in the US.
